TamilYogi: Tamil movies and Tamil dubbed movies, from Padayappa and Alaipayuthey to Leo, Amaran and Coolie
For many Tamil film fans, TamilYogi was one of the first names they typed in the early 2010s. Its January 2015 home page was a dark video blog with a huge grey wordmark, a thin bar of TV channel links at the very top, and a menu of Tamil New Movies, Tamil Bluray Movies, Tamil DVDRip Movies, Tamil Dubbed Movies, Video Songs, TV Serials and TV Shows. Below sat a featured carousel and a grid of Recent Movies with green titles, that month led by Kayal, Kappal and Lingaa. TamilYogi today keeps that familiar look and gives it a better purpose: every Tamil film, Tamil dubbed film and Tamil web series opens on the official services in your country, through one Watch now button.
This guide begins with the page itself: the top bar, the wordmark, the tabbed menu bar, the carousel and the posts. Then it walks through Tamil cinema decade by decade, from the classics of the 1990s and 2000s to the new releases, before turning to the Tamil dubbed shelves of Hollywood, Telugu, Korean and anime films, and the Tamil web series. It ends with the practical side: Tamil audio and subtitles, where each film streams, devices, free viewing, My List and safe streaming. For the short version, read how to watch on TamilYogi.
The TamilYogi design
The 2015 TamilYogi ran on VideoZoom, a WordPress theme by WPZOOM built for video sites, and its style sheet sets every colour on TamilYogi today. Links and titles are a lively green, #55CC55, headings white, and the big wordmark a calm grey, #888. The header sits between two fine #333 rules, the menu bar has the dark, softly graded look of the theme's menu background, and the featured carousel is a deep #252525. Posts light up to #2F2F2F when you point at them, small tag chips are #333, and buttons are dark with a slight gradient. Everything is set in Trebuchet MS, the friendly sans-serif the site chose for its titles and text.
The rebuild keeps the look and the proportions, and adds one small change: where green sits behind white text, it is a deeper shade, so buttons remain easy to read.
The top bar and wordmark
At the very top runs a slim dark bar of small grey links, where the 2015 site listed TV channels. Today it holds shortcuts to Tamil New Movies, Tamil Dubbed Movies, Tamil Web Series, My List and Help, each turning into a dark chip when you point at it. Below it, between fine rules, the header shows the wordmark in large letters, Tamil in grey and Yogi in green beside a green play circle, and a dark search box with a Search button on the right.
Mass action films
The mass entertainer is the heart of Tamil cinema: a larger-than-life hero, a punchy entry scene, a big interval twist and a festival-sized finale. TamilYogi collects the best of them. Theri and Master show Vijay at full power, Billa and Good Bad Ugly give Ajith Kumar his stylish best, and Jailer turned Rajinikanth's calm swagger into one of the biggest hits of its year. Kanguva mixes period battle scenes with a modern story, Veera Dheera Sooran: Part 2 packs a whole night of tension into its running time, and Blast and Karuppu bring the style into 2026. For action with a heavier punch, Salaar: Part 1 - Ceasefire and Pushpa 2 - The Rule arrive from Telugu with Tamil audio.
These films reward a big screen and loud speakers. The fights are choreographed like dance numbers, the background scores are built for applause and the songs arrive exactly when the story needs a lift. Watch them with friends, and the experience comes close to a first-day show.
Thrillers and mysteries
Tamil thrillers have become a genre of their own, admired far beyond Tamil Nadu. Ratsasan follows a young policeman hunting a serial killer, with a pace that keeps viewers leaning forward to the last reel. Thani Oruvan pits a sharp officer against a brilliant villain, Irumbu Thirai turns digital fraud into a gripping chase, and Maanaadu plays a time-loop story with a political edge. Yavarum Nalam is a quiet, creepy puzzle about a television serial that seems to know too much, and Stephen brings the mystery tradition into the streaming era. The web series shelf adds Suzhal - The Vortex, Vadhandhi, Inspector Rishi, Kuttram Purindhavan and November Story, each built for watching one more episode.
Comedy and feel-good films
Comedy runs through Tamil cinema from the classic era to today. Imsai Arasan 23rd Pulikecei is a royal spoof full of quotable lines, Thenali pairs Kamal Haasan's nervous hero with a hilarious doctor, and Chandramukhi blends laughs with a haunted-palace mystery. Indru Netru Naalai sends two friends through time with a borrowed machine, Gatta Kusthi turns a marriage into a wrestling match, and Love Today makes a phone swap the funniest test a couple can take. Dragon, Dude, Youth and With Love carry the easy charm of the newest generation, and the web series Triples, Emoji and Sweet Kaaram Coffee keep the laughter going across whole seasons.
Romance
Tamil love stories are some of the most rewatched films on the shelf. Minnale and Kadhalar Dhinam carry the glow of their songs, Alaipayuthey follows a young couple from first meeting to married life, and Kandukondain Kandukondain retells Jane Austen with two sisters, a rainy hill town and a classic Rahman score. 96 is the modern favourite, a reunion story told across one long night. Newer romances such as Vishwanath & Sons, DC and Retro bring love stories into bigger genres, and the anthology Modern Love Chennai gathers several stories of the city into one series.
Family viewing
Many Tamil films are made for the whole family, and TamilYogi marks them clearly with genres and certificates. Meiyazhagan is a gentle story of two cousins and one long evening, Kadaisi Vivasayi follows an elderly farmer with warmth and humour, and Annaatthe celebrates a brother's love for his sister. Rocketry: The Nambi Effect tells the story of a real space scientist, a good pick for curious teenagers. For younger viewers, the dubbed animation shelf offers Inside Out, Despicable Me, Coco, WALL·E, Coraline and the Studio Ghibli films Ponyo, Arrietty and The Cat Returns, all with Tamil audio on many services.
History on screen
Tamil cinema loves a grand historical story. The two Ponniyin Selvan films adapt Kalki Krishnamurthy's much-loved novel about the Chola empire, with a huge cast, palace intrigue and sea battles. Hey Ram looks at the years around India's independence through one man's memory, Kannathil Muthamittal follows an adopted girl searching for her mother in Sri Lanka, and Kaantha sets its drama in the golden age of Madras film studios. Bison Kaalamaadan draws on a real sporting life, and Jai Bhim brings a real courtroom fight for justice to the screen. From dubbed cinema, RRR, The Imitation Game and Oppenheimer complete a strong history shelf.
The 2026 releases
The newest shelf fills up through the year. Jana Nayagan is one of the most awaited Vijay films, Karuppu and Blast promise big action, Made in Korea takes a Tamil story abroad, and Kara, Vishwanath & Sons, DC, Youth and With Love cover crime, family and romance. As each one arrives on a streaming service, its Watch now panel updates, so the 2026 posts are worth checking every few weeks.
Hollywood franchises in Tamil
Some of the most-watched films on TamilYogi are Hollywood series with Tamil audio. The Marvel shelf runs from Iron Man and Iron Man 2 through The Avengers, Avengers: Age of Ultron, Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame. Spider-Man fans can follow Spider-Man: Homecoming and the animated Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse and Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse. The Harry Potter films, from Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire to Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2, make a wonderful family marathon in Tamil, and Avatar and Avatar: The Way of Water are made for the biggest screen in the house.
For grown-up evenings, the Christopher Nolan films The Dark Knight, Inception, Interstellar and Oppenheimer are favourites, and Dune, Blade Runner 2049 and Mad Max: Fury Road show science fiction at its most spectacular. Top Gun: Maverick and The Batman round out a shelf that Tamil audiences return to again and again.
More from Korea
Korean cinema has a large Tamil following, and its thrillers feel close to the energy of Tamil mass films. The Man from Nowhere is a lean revenge story with a loyal fan base, The Gangster, the Cop, the Devil teams a crime boss with a detective to catch a killer, and Snowpiercer puts the last survivors of a frozen world onto a speeding train. Train to Busan, Peninsula and #Alive form a thrilling zombie trio, The Wailing is a slow-burning village horror, and Decision to Leave is an elegant detective romance from Park Chan-wook. Most of these play with Tamil audio or English subtitles on the major services.
Tamil web series in depth
Tamil web series have grown into one of the richest parts of the catalogue. Suzhal - The Vortex opens with a factory fire and a missing girl during a village festival, and grows into a mystery that pulls a whole town into its story. Vadhandhi follows a policeman obsessed with the death of a young woman and the rumours around her. Inspector Rishi mixes a forest mystery with the supernatural, and The Village turns a road trip into a horror adventure. Navarasa and Paava Kadhaigal are anthologies from leading directors, Ayali tells of a girl determined to study in a village of strict traditions, and Queen is a drama inspired by a leader's life. Vilangu, Mathagam, Sengalam, Fingertip and TamilRockerz cover crime, politics and the film world itself. Season pages list every episode with its story and date.
Subtitles and learning Tamil
Most Tamil films on the official services come with English subtitles, and many also offer Hindi, Malayalam, Telugu or Kannada options. For viewers learning Tamil, watching with Tamil audio and English subtitles is a friendly way to pick up everyday phrases, and rewatching a favourite such as 96 or Love Today makes the dialogue easier to follow each time. Family films and romances use simpler, everyday speech, while the period dramas use richer, more formal Tamil. The subtitles page explains how to switch tracks on each device.
Watching from abroad
Tamil audiences live all over the world, from Singapore and Malaysia to Toronto, London, Dubai, Sydney and Zurich. TamilYogi's Watch now panel covers these countries, so choose yours once and every film page shows the services available there. Many Tamil films reach international services at the same time as India, and some arrive through regional services built for South Asian viewers. Weekend family evenings abroad often mean a new release on the big screen with the grandparents on a video call, and a good film makes that time special.
A week of TamilYogi
Here is one way to spend a week with TamilYogi. On Monday, start light with Love Today. On Tuesday, try the first two episodes of Suzhal - The Vortex. On Wednesday, go back to 1999 with Padayappa. On Thursday, watch Ratsasan with the lights low. On Friday, invite friends for Leo or Jailer. On Saturday, watch Ponniyin Selvan: Part I and Ponniyin Selvan: Part II as a grand double bill, and on Sunday, relax with the family and Coco in Tamil. Add each film to My List and tick them off as the week goes on.
Films to watch again
Some Tamil films grow richer with every viewing. Anniyan hides clues about its hero in the first half, Vikram rewards viewers who know Kaithi, and Maharaja plays differently once you know how its story fits together. Bombay and Alaipayuthey bring back the songs you know by heart, and Enthiran is still a joy for its inventive action. Keep a few of these in My List for evenings when you want something familiar.
Latest releases
The Recent Movies grid and the Tamil New Movies page follow the newest Tamil films as they reach streaming. Each film shows its release date, genre and score, and the Watch now panel shows whether it streams with a subscription, rents or buys. The page is the fastest way to see what arrived this week.
Horror and chills
Tamil horror often mixes fear with comedy, and Chandramukhi is the classic example: a haunted room, a mysterious dancer and a doctor played by Rajinikanth who solves the puzzle with style. Yavarum Nalam goes for pure unease, built around a family watching a television serial that mirrors their lives. From the dubbed shelf, The Conjuring brings a true-story haunting, Alien: Covenant mixes horror with science fiction, and The Wailing and Train to Busan show why Korean horror has such a large Tamil audience. Watch these with the lights low and the volume up.
More Telugu blockbusters
The Telugu shelf keeps growing because its big films arrive with full Tamil dubs. Eega is a joyful revenge fantasy about a man reborn as a housefly, and its director S. S. Rajamouli also made the two Bāhubali films and RRR. Pushpa: The Rise and Pushpa 2 - The Rule follow a sandalwood smuggler's rise with Allu Arjun's famous swagger. Kalki 2898-AD imagines a far-future India drawn from ancient myth, Devara: Part 1 is a coastal action saga, and V is a stylish cat-and-mouse thriller. In Tamil, these films feel as much at home as any Chennai release.
Studio Ghibli and anime
The anime shelf leans on Studio Ghibli, whose films have been dubbed into many languages. Spirited Away follows a girl working in a bathhouse of spirits, Howl's Moving Castle travels with a cursed young woman and a wizard's walking home, and The Wind Rises and The Boy and the Heron are Hayao Miyazaki's later, more personal stories. Makoto Shinkai's Your Name. and Weathering with You are dazzling modern romances, Wolf Children is a tender family story, and A Silent Voice: The Movie is a moving tale of friendship and forgiveness. For pure action, Dragon Ball Super: Broly, Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero and the Mugen Train film from Demon Slayer deliver spectacular battles.
Sharing with friends
Every TamilYogi page has a clean address, so sharing a film is as simple as copying the link from the address bar and sending it to a friend or a family group. The link opens the same post with its poster, story, cast and Watch now panel, and your friend can choose their own country to see where it plays for them. It is an easy way to plan a watch party, recommend a classic to a cousin abroad, or settle which star film the family will watch this weekend.
Slower connections
TamilYogi is light enough for slower connections: pages load quickly, posters are compressed, and the home page shows the most useful posts first. On the streaming services, a lower quality setting keeps playback smooth on mobile data, and many apps let you download a film on Wi-Fi to watch later while travelling. The video quality page explains the settings in each app.
Reading the scores
Every post shows a score out of ten from TMDB viewers, along with the number of votes behind it. A high score with many votes, such as Kaithi or The Dark Knight, means a film that pleases almost everyone. Newer releases start with fewer votes, so their scores settle over the first weeks. Use the score as a friendly guide, then read the story and trust your own taste.
The featured area and carousel
The home page opens with the featured area: a large, wide image of a highlighted film on the left, with its title and a short summary on a dark band at the bottom, and a welcome text on the right with four buttons for Tamil New Movies, Tamil Dubbed Movies, Tamil Web Series and Top rated. Below it runs the carousel, a dark strip with rounded lower corners holding eight posters of the newest Tamil films, just as the 2015 carousel showed its latest additions.
The Recent Movies grid
Then comes the heart of the page: Recent Movies, a grid of posts three across, in the layout the original used. Each post has a wide image with a small play circle in its corner, a green title with the year, the language and the word Movie or Web Series, a short summary of the story, a row of small genre chips and the score, and a dark More button. Point at a post and its background lights up to a soft grey. Sections for Tamil Dubbed Movies, Tamil Web Series, Tamil Classics and Top rated follow, each with a View all link at the right of its heading.
Categories and help
Below the posts, a block of dark category chips lists every shelf with its number of titles, from Tamil New Movies and Tamil HD Movies to Hollywood in Tamil, Telugu in Tamil, Korean movies, Anime movies, the web series and the genre shelves. The chips turn a lighter grey when you point at them, like the tag chips of the original posts. A set of help cards follows, then this guide.
A film page
Each film page opens with the backdrop and poster, then the title, year, running time, genres and score. The story follows, with the director and the cast. The Watch now panel lets you choose your country, and Add to My List sits beside it. Web series pages list every episode with its date and summary. A row of related titles closes each page, so Kaithi leads you to Vikram and Leo, and Train to Busan to Peninsula.
The 1990s and 2000s
The Tamil Classics shelf is a trip back to the years many TamilYogi visitors grew up with. The late 1990s brought A. R. Rahman's music into every home, through Mani Ratnam's Bombay and the college romance Kadhalar Dhinam, and Rajinikanth's Padayappa became one of the most loved mass films of the decade, with its iconic villain Neelambari. Vaali, with Ajith Kumar in a double role, marked the arrival of director S. J. Suryah.
The 2000s opened with Alaipayuthey and Minnale, two romances that defined a generation, and Kamal Haasan's Hey Ram, Aalavandhan and Thenali showed his remarkable range in just two years. Kannathil Muthamittal told the story of an adopted girl searching for her mother in Sri Lanka, Kandukondain Kandukondain retold Jane Austen with Aishwarya Rai, and Shankar made the youthful Boys and the vigilante thriller Anniyan.
Mass entertainers ruled the middle of the decade: Vikram in Dhool, Ajith Kumar in Ji and Billa, and Rajinikanth in Chandramukhi and Sivaji: The Boss. Vadivelu's historical spoof Imsai Arasan 23rd Pulikecei remains one of the funniest Tamil films ever made, and Kanthaswamy and Yavarum Nalam closed the decade with a masked hero and a haunted flat. Open Tamil Classics.
The 2010s
The Tamil HD Movies shelf covers the 2010s. Enthiran opened the decade with Rajinikanth's robot, and Mani Ratnam's Raavanan took the Ramayana into a forest. Thani Oruvan and Yennai Arindhaal were sharp, stylish police films, Indru Netru Naalai a playful time-travel comedy, and Theri made Vijay a fierce but tender cop. The later years brought 2.0, Irumbu Thirai, the tender 96, the chilling Ratsasan, Hero and Lokesh Kanagaraj's one-night thriller Kaithi, which would later become the root of a whole cinematic universe. Open Tamil HD Movies.
The 2020s
The Tamil New Movies shelf begins in 2020, and it is the busiest on TamilYogi. The decade opened with Master, Vijay's college-and-juvenile-home drama with Vijay Sethupathi as his rival, and Jai Bhim, Suriya's courtroom drama about justice for a tribal family. Maanaadu put a political thriller inside a time loop, Jagame Thandhiram sent Dhanush to London's gangland, and Annaatthe gave Rajinikanth a village family drama.
2022 was a remarkable year: Vikram became one of the biggest Tamil hits ever, Ponniyin Selvan: Part I brought Kalki's Chola saga to life, Love Today turned a phone swap into a generational comedy, and Kadaisi Vivasayi, about an old farmer, won national acclaim. Mahaan, Sardar, Gatta Kusthi, Beast and Rocketry: The Nambi Effect kept the variety going. The following years brought Jailer, Leo, Varisu, Ponniyin Selvan: Part II, The Greatest of All Time, Maharaja, Amaran, Meiyazhagan, Indian 2: Zero Tolerance and Kanguva.
2025 and 2026 have been just as lively. Mani Ratnam and Kamal Haasan reunited for Thug Life, Vikram starred in Veera Dheera Sooran: Part 2, Mari Selvaraj made the kabaddi drama Bison Kaalamaadan, and Dulquer Salmaan led the period film Kaantha. Coolie, Good Bad Ugly, Vidaamuyarchi, Retro, Madharaasi, Dragon and Dude drew big crowds, and 2026 brings Jana Nayagan, Karuppu, Kara, Blast and With Love. The Tamil New Movies guide keeps a short list, and the shelf is at Tamil New Movies.
Tamil Dubbed Movies
Tamil Dubbed Movies was one of the busiest categories on the 2015 TamilYogi, and it is a big part of the site today. Tamil audiences love watching the world's biggest films in their own language, and the official services now make that easy: most major Hollywood, Telugu and many Korean and Japanese films stream with a Tamil audio track. The Tamil Dubbed Movies shelf gathers more than seventy of them, and the Tamil dubbed guide picks highlights.
Hollywood in Tamil
Marvel is the most-watched Hollywood franchise in Tamil, and TamilYogi carries its biggest chapters: Iron Man, Iron Man 2, The Avengers, Avengers: Age of Ultron, Spider-Man: Homecoming, Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame, plus Sony's Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse and Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse. James Cameron's Avatar and Avatar: The Way of Water were huge in Tamil Nadu, and Christopher Nolan's The Dark Knight, Inception, Interstellar and Oppenheimer have devoted Tamil fans.
The shelf also has the Harry Potter films from Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire to Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2, Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest, Mad Max: Fury Road, Top Gun: Maverick, The Batman, Dune, Joker and Real Steel, the robot-boxing film that became a favourite with Tamil families. Animated favourites include Coco, Inside Out, WALL·E, Despicable Me and Coraline. Open Hollywood in Tamil.
Telugu in Tamil
Telugu blockbusters now often release in Tamil on the same day, and many Tamil viewers first saw them that way. S. S. Rajamouli's Eega, a revenge story told through a housefly, was a hit in its Tamil version as Naan Ee, and his Bāhubali: The Beginning, Bāhubali 2: The Conclusion and RRR became pan-Indian events. Allu Arjun's Pushpa: The Rise and Pushpa 2 - The Rule, Prabhas in Salaar: Part 1 - Ceasefire and Kalki 2898-AD, N. T. Rama Rao Jr. in Devara: Part 1 and Nani in V complete the shelf. Open Telugu in Tamil.
Korean movies
Korean cinema has found an enthusiastic Tamil audience, drawn by its twists, its emotion and its genre-bending energy. Parasite won the Palme d'Or and the Oscar for Best Picture, Train to Busan and Peninsula made zombie films thrilling for everyone, and The Man from Nowhere is a lean, powerful action film about a pawnshop owner protecting a young girl. The Gangster, the Cop, the Devil, Decision to Leave, The Wailing, Snowpiercer and the survival thriller #Alive round out the shelf. Open Korean movies.
Anime movies
Anime has a growing Tamil fan base, and the Anime movies shelf gathers fourteen of the most loved Japanese animated films. Studio Ghibli leads with Hayao Miyazaki's Spirited Away, Howl's Moving Castle, Ponyo, The Wind Rises and The Boy and the Heron, and the studio's Arrietty and The Cat Returns. Makoto Shinkai's Your Name. and Weathering with You are dazzling romances, A Silent Voice: The Movie is a moving story about bullying and forgiveness, and Mamoru Hosoda's Wolf Children follows a mother raising two children who can turn into wolves.
For action, Dragon Ball Super: Broly and Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero bring Goku's battles to the big screen, and the Demon Slayer film Mugen Train follows Tanjiro and the Flame Hashira aboard a haunted train. Many of these films stream with English subtitles and dubs, and a growing number with Tamil or Hindi audio. Open Anime movies, or read the Korean and anime guide.
Tamil Web Series
The 2015 TamilYogi had categories for TV serials and shows; TamilYogi today follows the Tamil web series that have become some of the best writing in Tamil entertainment. Suzhal - The Vortex unfolds a missing-child case against a village festival, Vadhandhi chases the truth behind a young woman's death, November Story follows a daughter protecting her father with dementia who becomes a murder suspect, and Inspector Rishi investigates deaths in a forest steeped in legend.
Kuttram Purindhavan, Vilangu, Sengalam, Mathagam and Fingertip add more crime and suspense, Navarasa, Modern Love Chennai and Paava Kadhaigal gather several directors in one series, and Triples, Sweet Kaaram Coffee, Emoji and Ayali bring lighter moods. Queen retells a political journey in fiction, and The Village turns a road trip into a horror story. The web series guide sums them up, and the shelf is at Tamil Web Series.
Top rated
The Top rated shelf gathers titles scoring 7.5 or more, and it mixes Tamil and dubbed favourites freely: 96, Kaithi, Maharaja and Vikram sit beside Spirited Away, Your Name., Interstellar, The Dark Knight and Parasite. It is the quickest route to a film almost everyone has enjoyed. Open Top rated.
Watching in Tamil
Watching a dubbed film in Tamil is simple on the official services. Open the film in the service's app, start playing, and tap the speech-bubble or audio icon; choose Tamil from the list of audio tracks. Big Hollywood releases on JioHotstar, Prime Video and Netflix in India usually include Tamil, Telugu and Hindi audio, and most Telugu, Kannada and Malayalam blockbusters release with Tamil audio too. The subtitles menu sits in the same place, with English subtitles for most Tamil films and many others. The page on Tamil audio and subtitles explains each step.
How Watch now works
Every film and series page on TamilYogi has a Watch now panel with a country list: India first, then Singapore, Malaysia, the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, the Philippines, Germany, France, Switzerland, New Zealand and South Africa. Choose yours and press Watch now; TamilYogi opens the title's JustWatch page for that country, where every official service is listed in four groups: subscription, rental, purchase and free. TamilYogi remembers your country for next time.
Where the films stream
In India, Tamil films are shared among several services. Prime Video and Netflix carry many of the biggest recent releases, JioHotstar carries a large Tamil library along with Disney and Marvel films with Tamil audio, ZEE5 and SonyLIV carry many films and their own originals, and Sun NXT carries the Sun Pictures catalogue, from Enthiran to Jailer. Aha focuses on Tamil and Telugu. Tamil web series live mostly on Prime Video, Netflix, JioHotstar and ZEE5.
Outside India, Netflix and Prime Video carry a large share of Tamil titles, and the international versions of the Indian services serve Tamil families in Singapore, Malaysia, the Gulf, Europe and North America. The page on where Tamil films stream gives an overview.
Phones, tablets and TVs
TamilYogi runs in any modern browser. On an Android phone, open the Chrome menu and choose Add to Home screen; on an iPhone, tap Share and then Add to Home Screen. The green play circle then sits beside your other apps and opens the site full-screen, with your country and My List ready. Films play in the official apps of each service, from Google Play or the App Store, and on the television the same apps run on Fire TV, Google TV, Apple TV, smart TVs and the set-top boxes of Indian operators. Chromecast and AirPlay send a film from your phone to the big screen. The apps and devices page covers each one.
HD, 4K and data
The official services stream in HD as standard, mostly 1080p, and big releases like Ponniyin Selvan: Part II, Leo, Avatar: The Way of Water and Oppenheimer often stream in 4K with Dolby Atmos. Around five megabits per second is enough for smooth HD and around twenty-five for 4K. On mobile data, most Indian apps offer a data-saver setting, and most let you download films on Wi-Fi to watch later in airplane mode. The video quality page has more.
Free Tamil movies
Many Tamil films can be watched free and legally with adverts. JioHotstar and ZEE5 have free sections, and several Tamil studios publish films on their official YouTube channels. When a title on TamilYogi has a free option in your country, it appears in the Watch now list beside the paid ones. Trial periods on subscription services are another way to catch a short series like Vadhandhi or Suzhal - The Vortex. The free movies page keeps a list.
The stars of TamilYogi
Tamil films are often chosen by their star, and TamilYogi makes it easy to follow one. Rajinikanth fans will find Padayappa, Baba, Chandramukhi, Sivaji: The Boss, Enthiran, 2.0, Annaatthe, Jailer and Coolie. Kamal Haasan's shelf runs from Hey Ram, Aalavandhan and Thenali to Vikram, Indian 2: Zero Tolerance and Thug Life. Vijay's films include Theri, Master, Beast, Varisu, Leo, The Greatest of All Time and Jana Nayagan, and Ajith Kumar's include Vaali, Ji, Billa, Yennai Arindhaal, Vidaamuyarchi and Good Bad Ugly.
Suriya leads Jai Bhim, Kanguva and Retro, Vikram leads Dhool, Anniyan, Kanthaswamy, Mahaan and Veera Dheera Sooran: Part 2, and Karthi leads Kaithi and Sardar. Dhanush has Jagame Thandhiram, Vijay Sethupathi has 96 and Maharaja, Sivakarthikeyan has Hero, Amaran and Madharaasi, and a new generation led by Pradeep Ranganathan has Love Today, Dragon and Dude. Search any name, and the films featuring that actor appear.
Directors worth following
Mani Ratnam's films span the whole shelf, from Bombay, Alaipayuthey and Kannathil Muthamittal to Raavanan, the Ponniyin Selvan films and Thug Life. Shankar made Boys, Anniyan, Sivaji: The Boss, Enthiran, 2.0 and Indian 2: Zero Tolerance. Gautham Vasudev Menon made Minnale and Yennai Arindhaal, and Lokesh Kanagaraj made Kaithi, Master, Vikram, Leo and Coolie. Nelson made Beast and Jailer, Venkat Prabhu made Maanaadu and The Greatest of All Time, and Karthik Subbaraj made Jagame Thandhiram, Mahaan and Retro.
Songs and scores
Video Songs had its own menu on the 2015 TamilYogi, and music is still one of the best reasons to watch a Tamil film. A. R. Rahman's scores for Bombay, Kadhalar Dhinam, Alaipayuthey and the Ponniyin Selvan films are classics, Harris Jayaraj's songs for Minnale and Anniyan were everywhere in the 2000s, and Anirudh Ravichander's energy powers Master, Vikram, Jailer, Leo and Coolie. The official music apps carry the soundtracks, and the films themselves sound best with good speakers or headphones.
Festival seasons
Tamil cinema lives by its festival calendar. Pongal in January and Deepavali in the autumn bring the biggest star films, often two or three in the same week, and summer holidays and long weekends bring family entertainers. A few weeks after their cinema run, these films arrive on the streaming services and appear at the front of the Recent Movies grid on TamilYogi, with Watch now showing where each one is available.
My List
My List is the TamilYogi watchlist. Press Add to My List on any film or series page and it is saved in your browser, private to you. For web series, mark the episode you reached on each season page and TamilYogi remembers your place. Export saves your list to a small file and Import restores it on another device. The My List page explains more.
Search and A-Z
The search box beside the wordmark shows matching titles as you type, and understands English titles and Tamil names written in English letters, so typing Naan Ee finds Eega. Press Enter for the full search page with filters for type, genre, year, language and score. The A-Z list shows every title, and finding a film collects every route.
Choosing what to watch
A few questions make choosing easier. A Tamil film or a dubbed one? The menu splits them clearly. A star film or something smaller? The Recent Movies grid leans towards the big releases, while 96, Meiyazhagan and Kadaisi Vivasayi offer quieter pleasures. A single evening or a weekend? A Tamil web series fits a weekend perfectly, and the Ponniyin Selvan films make a grand two-part plan.
Ideas for a movie night
For a nostalgic night, pair Padayappa with Thenali. For a thriller double bill, watch Kaithi and then Vikram. For a dubbed blockbuster night, Bāhubali: The Beginning and Bāhubali 2: The Conclusion back to back make an epic evening, and for animation in Tamil, Coco or Spirited Away suit the whole family. For something to discuss after, Parasite or Maharaja will keep the conversation going.
Recognising TamilYogi
TamilYogi has a clear look: a dark page, a slim top bar of grey links, the big grey and green wordmark with a play circle between fine rules, a dark menu bar whose links turn into white tabs with green text, a featured area and carousel, and three-per-row posts with green titles and More buttons. Bookmark the home page and add it to your phone's home screen. The official site page gives the details, and the site status page helps when a page loads slowly.
Safe streaming
Install apps only from Google Play, the App Store or your TV's store, keep your devices updated, and use a different strong password for each service with two-step sign-in switched on. Before you pay or sign in, check that the address bar shows the service's real name. TamilYogi sends you to JustWatch, and JustWatch sends you to the official services, so every step stays trustworthy. The safety page has a checklist.
Privacy
TamilYogi keeps your data in your own browser. My List, your episode marks and your chosen country stay on your device, ready to clear at any time or move with Export and Import. Posters, stories, cast and episodes come from TMDB, and the viewing options come from JustWatch.
How the catalogue is chosen
The catalogue follows the 2015 menu. Tamil films come first, from the 1990s classics to this year's releases, chosen from the titles with the largest audiences on TMDB and checked by hand. The Tamil Dubbed Movies shelves follow, with the Hollywood, Telugu, Korean and Japanese films Tamil audiences love, and the Tamil Web Series shelf takes the place of the old TV categories. Every title comes with a poster, a story and a score. The catalogue focuses on films and scripted series, and leaves daily television serials to other places.
A short history of TamilYogi
TamilYogi became one of the best-known names among Tamil film fans in the early 2010s, and its archived January 2015 home page shows the design this site keeps: the thin bar of channel links, the big grey wordmark, the dark menu bar, the featured carousel and the Recent Movies grid. Over the following years the name moved between many addresses with a much simpler page. TamilYogi today keeps the classic 2015 look and sends every title to the official services, in HD, in Tamil or with subtitles, on every device.
